Once anyone or any organisation starts lying all credibility is lost. Hence politicians, most advertisers and their organisations have little or no credibility. Our society is totally corrupt. The sooner we admit this to ourselves the sooner we can try to improve.

I think the easiest fix to the lack of trust in governments is for the government's to be less corrupt and more trustworthy.

Probably the scariest part of deep fakes is that currently they’re posted videos. However in a short time, maybe already this year, the deep fakes will be even live streamed events from major media. Most people don’t realise that most live events are delayed intentionally by all major broadcasters by between 15 – 30 seconds. Most famously is the Super Bowl since Nipple-Gate years ago, and it set the precedent, which can be used for nefarious objectives, other than “think about the children” seeing a female nipple ring.

This is essentially no different from any other authentication problem. You don't need to authorize media, you just need it to be digitally signed. Post anything you want. Then anyone can sign that media as authentic and you can then depend upon someone you trust to have authenticated the data as true. The user confirms the digital signature of the person he trusts. If the FBI authenticates it, you know it's fake. If Russell Brand authenticates it, might have more credibility. Digital signatures cannot (currently) be forged. Wait, are you saying that deep fakes might make us skeptical about official government information? No really?
