According to contrarian investor Cathie Wood, the head of Ark Investment Management, regulators have failed to identify problems within traditional banks like Silicon Valley Bank and Credit Suisse, as they have been too focused on the cryptocurrency sector.
In recent months, regulators have paid close attention to the cryptocurrency industry, warning banks to stay away from providing services to the sector and insisting that many cryptocurrency services do not comply with U.S. Securities regulations. Cathie took to Twitter to claim that, while the U.S. banking system was struggling during the crisis, Bitcoin, Ether, and other cryptocurrencies remained unaffected and have not skipped a beat, providing a increasingly attractive parallel financial system.
Cathie argues that regulators should have been focused on the centralised and opaque points of failure within the traditional banking system, rather than on decentralised finance and cryptocurrencies. In her most recent ‘In The Know update’ Cathie Wood is joined by Art Laffer, an American economist who gained prominence during the Reagan Administration, and they discussed the failing financial system, the Fed’s increasing rate hikes, and the general economic outlook.
